This weekend saw sports history in the making as people from around the Cape Province flocked to Bloubergstrand, in Cape Town to be a part of the first Stand Up Paddle Boarding event in South Africa.

Close to 80 riders, many of whom attempted the sport for the first time, took part in the event as equipment was supplied free of charge by Bilt, Coreban, Naish and Starboard.

Ivan van Vuuren from Coreban wrote an excellent guide on choosing the right stand up paddle board equipment. When starting, there are so many different configurations as far as fins, boards, paddles, deck pads and leashes are concerned that it can get confusing really quick.
